“Some humans would do anything to see if it was possible to do it. If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying ‘End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH’, the paint wouldn’t even have time to dry.”
— Terry Pratchett, The Thief Of Time
“When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”
— Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes
“You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out, and you get loose in your joints and very shabby.
But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”
— Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit
This is one of my favourite quotes from one of my favourite children’s books. I like to think that some of my old, well loved stuffed animals have made the transition to “Real.” They wouldn’t win any prizes for looks and I’m pretty sure they’re held together by nothing but love at this point, but they were/are special to me and they all hold special memories.
What about you? Did you have a favourite stuffed animal that became “Real” because of love?
“If ever there is a tomorrow when we’re not together…there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.”
— A. A. Milne
“It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die. That is true, it’s called Life. ”
— Terry Pratchett, The Last Continent
“But it does not seem that I can trust anyone,’ said Frodo.
Sam looked at him unhappily. ‘It all depends on what you want,’ put in Merry. ‘You can trust us to stick with you through thick and thin–to the bitter end. And you can trust us to keep any secret of yours–closer than you keep it yourself. But you cannot trust us to let you face trouble alone, and go off without a word. We are your friends, Frodo.”
— J.R.R Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
